The MIT Club of Germany kicked-off its Smart Circular Cities activities with a big, in-person event in October 2022 together with our partner BMW, TUM (Technical University Munich) and Circular Munich.

The event was the starting point for our Smart Circular Cities Start-Up Mentorship Program, where we bring the global MIT Network to the start-ups that were selected for this program. Besides having 2 dedicated mentors each, the MIT Club of Germany is looking for opportunities to expose the start-up to the global MIT alumni network.

In this context we have put together the following event together with the MIT Alumni Energy, Environment and Sustainability Network to allow interested MIT alumni and partners of the MIT Club of Germany to understand how start-ups contribute to the transition to a circular economy. The participant may even find the presenting start-ups interesting enough to engage with them directly after the event. The MIT Club of Germany is happy to make a connection.

MIT Club of Germany – Smart Circular Cities Symposium – Munich Oct 8 2022

This event will not only be comprehensive and vibrant platform for meeting other like-minded people from the MIT community, but also one to look back on many years of get-togethers, to exchanging views & thoughts and to uncountable common activities. It is also a departure point for the next 30 years that will – no doubt – be full of challenges and opportunities for the MIT community to contribute to our society, our economy, and our planet.

This year’s AGM is dedicated to the broad topic area of Smart Circular Cities and is anchored in the Climate Change Matter Series, which we have been running since 2020

On Saturday, we are glad to invite you to a hugely dense and informative Symposium on “Smart Circular Cities” – looking at the concept of Circularity and trying to understand how this may impact cities, industries and economies at large. In addition to having some outstanding speakers and guests, we also aimed to get into the “doing” by identifying a few intriguing Start-Ups in this field and building a mentorship program for them in order to provide them access to the MIT network and the know-how therein. They too will talk about their approaches and why they believe it is worth investing in solutions for a better world.

Thought Leadership and Story-Finding by Rhea Wessel: How to generate a constant stream of story ideas to grow your business

Story-telling and story-finding are two different things. In this session, Ivy professionals will learn how to find stories that position you and/or your firm as the go-to expert in your niche – as thought leaders.

Rhea Wessel, an American writer in Germany and graduate of Columbia University, will introduce you to the Story-Framing System she created. It will help you develop a list of story ideas that are not blah blah content but are born from your thought-leadership niche and serve your audience by sharing your expertise.

The session includes a live story-finding demonstration with a member of the audience. You will map your own ideas and understand how to generate a steady stream of quality story ideas to promote your business.

This is a mini workshop that builds on itself. Please be on time and get ready to work in breakout with other members of the Ivy Circle.

After the session, those who sign up will go to a nearby restaurant for dinner and drinks for more networking.

What to expect:

  • Learn the 3 steps to thought-leadership writing and the ingredients of a good piece of writing in the thought-leadership style
  • Use the Story-Framing System to create a list of story ideas born of your thought-leadership niche that you can begin writing immediately
