Wine Tasting and Tapas on June 14th

by Carl Kruse

Wine tasting is back and the Ivy Circle invites all to another collaboration with our friends of the Vivanova Wine Club on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 7-9pm at the Sana Hotel in Charlottenburg, Berlin. The evening will feature a tasting of a Prosecco aperitif, premium white, rosé and red wines paired with gourmet appetizers.

Our guide for the evening is Bradley Mitton, a wine expert from the United Kingdom, currently based in Monaco, where he has gained renown for his events in the French Riviera, including at the Nobu Monte Carlo, Fairmont Monte Carlo, the Monaco Grand Prix, and various super yachts.

The last event we did with Bradley at the Sana was well received and we look forward to another great evening of meeting new friends and old. Also attending will be Ivy Circle friend Mark White, who will be at hand to introduce his company’s new app called Ingredifind, which helps people with dietary preferences find restaurants that are right for personalized dining.

The Sana Berlin Hotel is about 600 meters from KaDeWe at Nürnberger Str. 33-34 in Berlin. The stylish hotel offers a spacious outdoor area with comfy sofas for our event.

The cost is 25€ and includes everything – free flowing wine, great tapas and of course the gathering of our Ivy Circle combined with Bradley’s Club Vivanova group. It will be good!

Tickets are available online at

Gallery Walk June 2-3 in Charlottenburg

by Carl Kruse

The Ivy Circle invites everyone to the gallery walks slated for the 2nd and 3rd of June in the Charlottenburg kiez of Berlin.

Called the Charlotten Walk, the 2 days will see 41 galleries open their doors to all.   Hours for Friday, June 2, are 6- 9 in the evening, and on Saturday, 3 June, from noon to six pm.

Charlottenburg in Berlin is home to one of the most energetic and exciting gallery scenes in Germany, making for a perfect location for artistic exhibitions. Participating galleries include 68Projekts, Gedok Berlin, Galerie Albrecht, Galerie Bassenge, Galerie Michael Janssen, Kienzle Foundation, and Galerie Anna Probst.

Over time, a large number of galleries have relocated to the kiez from other parts of Berlin, such as from the Potsdamer Strasse, and from other cities such as Hamburg and Munich.

The Charlotten Walk gallery tour was created in 2018 by Artbutler, with Sussanne Burmehl taking over in 2022.

For further info: www.charlottenwalk.de

While the Ivy Circle does not have a specific tour planned for the Charlotten Walk it encourages everyone to explore on their own the various offerings in modern art open to all and at no cost.

Cocktails at Hier Wo Du Strahlst in Berlin

by Carl Kruse

It’s time for cocktails and our next gathering takes place on Wednesday, May 24 starting at 7:00 pm at the bar “Hier Wo Du Strahlst” (Here Where you Shine) on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 20, 10176 Berlin.

Hier Wo Du Strahlst is a new bar owned by writer and art publisher Johannes Finke. The Ivy Circle has the place for itself this night.

Johannes welcomes everyone with a complimentary shot (or two) of Fräulein Schoz-Ingwer, a newly launched (and delicious) ginger liquor made in Berlin, as well as a specially priced drink list just for us. Almost anything else you might fancy is a la carte with a good chance of drinks aplenty flying about gratis.

Drink with us and say hello to friends new and old. Good conversations guaranteed.

Please RSVP to [email protected] so we can give Johannes an accurate head count.

Cheers!

The Brews Cruise Returns

by Carl Kruse

Berlin Beer Week returns this September and with it one of their marquee events which is the “Taste of the U.S.A.” cruise, featuring a tour around the watery parts of Berlin, unlimited tasting of 30 craft beers from North Carolina and Tennessee, a free Bourbon tasting, several DJ sets, and an after party.  We will take a look at Berlin from the water and sample artisanal beers.  Even if you don’t like beer this is good.

The organizers of Berlin Beer Week have invited us once again to join this year’s cruise, which takes place on Saturday, 2 September 2023, boarding at about 14:30 from Märkisches Ufer 48 and going until about 17:00.

We have a super discounted rate of 49.90€, which includes the cruise, unlimited beer, a reserved after party area for us, and the first beer free at the after party.  It is a lot of love.

Berlin Beer Week takes place in September, but the cruise always sells out early so if you are interested please reach out as soon as possible to Carl Kruse at [email protected] to RSVP.

In other news, there is a book presentation with Uwe Westphal on May 10 with complimentary wine and appetizers at INIZIO at 18:30 and a happy hour at “Hier Wo Du Strahlst” on May 24 beginning at 19:00.

Cheers and to a great Spring!

Ivy Circle Berlin – Tour of Tempelhof Airport

by Carl Kruse

Join us for an evening of Berlin history as the Ivy Circle teams up with Wharton School Alumni of Berlin and with the Carl Kruse Arts Blog for a private tour of the former Tempelhof Airport on Friday, 24 February 2023 starting at 6:30pm.

Tempelhof Airport is one of the largest architectural monuments in Europe, and one of only three main buildings in Berlin built by the Nazis that have survived (the other two being the Olympic Stadium and the former Luftwaffe headquarters, currently home to the Finanzamt).

Built between 1936 and 1941, the building stands for the self-staging of the National Socialists. In 1948/49, however, the airport also became a symbol of freedom through the Berlin Airlift.

Let’s learn more about the ideological-political background of the airport and explore some of its most interesting spaces.

Guided Private Tour: 2 hours, 18:30 – 20:30h.

After the tour we will head to Orville’s, the former US Air Force Officer’s Lounge off the main hall for drinks and chat. At 9:00 p.m., their house jazz band with a guest vocalist will celebrate a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

The program fee includes starter wines, waters and nibbles.

RSVP kindly asap to Georgette via [email protected]

Program fee for the evening is 30 € payable in advance.

Bank details will be provided upon registration.

First come, first served. Maximum 30 guests!

Important notes:
Due to the structural conditions, the tours are unfortunately not barrier-free. A good basic physical condition is required due to longer distances and various stairs. Sturdy, closed shoes are required.
Animals, baby carriages, walkers and wheelchairs are not allowed.
Photography is allowed only for private use.
In case of late arrival at the starting point, participation in the guided tour cannot be guaranteed.
Please meet at 18:15h at the CHECK-IN Visitor Center on Platz der Luftbrücke, right next to the main central entrance to the airport building.
